Art of Comedy – Screenwriting

The Art of Writing Comedy – Screenplays is a 90 minute four-week course at the Third Street Gallery 220 3rd Street, Carnegie, PA 15106, Tuesday’s in September (3, 10, 17, 24) at 7:00 p.m. Students will learn about the craft of writing a screenplay with an emphasis on comedy. The course is designed to maximize the potential for humor and humorous situations. However, since comedy is “drama exaggerated” a student creating an action film/drama or various genres will benefit from the course.

Class is $125.00 with a $25.00 discount for any participant with a current student ID. Checks or money orders can be sent to the Carnegie Arts Initiative, at Third Street Gallery 220 3rd Street, Carnegie, PA 15106.

Course Advisor Mike Buzzelli is a standup comedian and published author. As a comedian, performs all around the country, most notably, the Ice House, the Comedy Store and the Improv in Los Angeles. He has performed as a stand up in Pittsburgh for several local charity events such as Cabaret for a Cause, The GLSEN Awards, and Brewing Up A Cure.

As a writer, Mike has published in a variety of websites, magazines and newspapers. His book, Below Average Genius, a collection of humor pieces culled from his weekly humor column at the Observer-Reporter newspaper, is on sale now at Amazon.com.

Buzzelli is a former Third Place Winner in the ‘One In Ten’ Screenwriting Competition, and a former runner-up in Writers Digest Competition, Venice Arts Screenwriting Competition, America’s Best Screenplay Competition, and the Wisconsin Screenwriting Competition. Recently, his play was performed at two venues in Norfolk, Virginia.

Buzzelli has optioned two feature screenplays, both comedies, to independent production companies. He has several feature screenplays ready for production.
