New Hazlett Theater Presents Point Park University Student Collaboration “Perception”

PITTSBURGH, PA (April 27, 2012) – Perception, a collaboration between Point Park University studying dance, communications and cinema, is being staged at the New Hazlett Theater Friday, May 4, 2012, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 and all of the proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish® Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia to help make a child’s wish come true.

“I’ve been blessed receive a grant from the Puffin Foundation to produce this work and so I really wanted to find a way to give back,” says Alyson Laury, founder and choreographer of Perception. “The inspiration for the show is wishes and dreams and so Make-A-Wish seemed like a perfect fit.”
Alyson Laury, a dance major, has always dreamed of being a choreographer.Perception also features dancers, vocalists, guitarists and cinematography work from Point Park University students.

“It’s been an amazing experience to see how as Point Park students we can bring our talents together for an amazing show that will showcase our work and benefit Make-A-Wish,” says Jessica Heinrichs, event coordinator of Perception. Jessica is also a Make-A-Wish volunteer.

Perception will feature a mix of contemporary and modern dance, as well as cinematography done by cinema majors Matt Leib and Patrick Linberg. A short film will also be screened during the performance featuring Dominic Ruperto, a Make-A-Wish kid, to provide more information about the organization’s work.

“We appreciate all of the support we’ve received from family and friends,” Laury concludes.“We’re grateful for the opportunity to produce a show for the community that also benefits such a good cause.”
