University of Funny Opens New Class

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 9, 2012 – Pittsburgh Comedian Matt Wohlfarth announces another University of Funny class.

The Second Standup Comedy Class Begins April 18,2012 at Shaler Library in Glenshaw, PA

Anyone who’s ever been told you how funny they are or have watched a standup comedian’s performance and thought, “I can do that” now have an opportunity to develop their comedic skills and step into the spotlight in front of a live nightclub audience.

Comedian and comedy writer Matt Wohlfarth announces the second session of The ABC’s of Standup Comedy Class: Introduction to Standup, a four-week program that will be held from 6:00–7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays between April 18 and will run four weeks all on Wednesdays and is designed to help aspiring comedians develop their skills. The class will be provided in the conference room of the Shaler Library, located at 1822 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA. 
This interactive, fast-paced class, taught by Wohlfarth and including many of the principles presented in Wohlfarth’s popular book The ABCs of Standup Comedy, will introduce participants to the art of writing and performing standup comedy.

This is the second class of an educational initiative Wohlfarth has created called the University of Funny. Other classes related to such topics as marketing and merchandising are now in development. The University of Funny mission statement is “to teach the art of comedy in all of its forms to aspiring and professional performers and business people in a fun, interactive and intellectually-stimulating environment.” At the conclusion of the four weeks, they’ll have the opportunity to perform a 5- to 7-minute set onstage as part of a comedy showcase at a yet to be determined site. 

During The ABCs of Standup Comedy class, participants will learn an extensive range of skills, including how to write jokes, gather material from everyday life, create a comedy routine and develop a comedy persona.

The class is limited to 20 students.

Matt Wohlfarth has appeared across the U.S. at such comedy clubs at the Improv, Funny Bone, Punchline, The Comedy Store and The Laugh Factory. Matt also was the winner of 2008 Carnival Cruise Challenge.

He has toured nationally with Yakov Smirnoff and performed with numerous comics, including John Stewart, Frank Caliendo, Kevin James, Mitch Hedberg, Brian Regan and Louie Anderson.
