Comedian and comedy writer Matt Wohlfarth announces the second session of The ABC’s of Standup Comedy Class: Introduction to Standup, a four-week program that will be held from 6:00–7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays between April 18 and will run four weeks all on Wednesdays and is designed to help aspiring comedians develop their skills. The class will be provided in the conference room of the Shaler Library, located at 1822 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA. This interactive, fast-paced class, taught by Wohlfarth and including many of the principles presented in Wohlfarth’s popular book The ABCs of Standup Comedy, will introduce participants to the art of writing and performing standup comedy.
This is the second class of an educational initiative Wohlfarth has created called the University of Funny. Other classes related to such topics as marketing and merchandising are now in development. The University of Funny mission statement is “to teach the art of comedy in all of its forms to aspiring and professional performers and business people in a fun, interactive and intellectually-stimulating environment.” At the conclusion of the four weeks, they’ll have the opportunity to perform a 5- to 7-minute set onstage as part of a comedy showcase at a yet to be determined site. During The ABCs of Standup Comedy class, participants will learn an extensive range of skills, including how to write jokes, gather material from everyday life, create a comedy routine and develop a comedy persona.
