Curved Light Shines in Vandergrift

Vandergrift, PA – Mary 6th, 2012 – New Art gallery in the AK Valley debuts the work of Mia Donna And Sam Thorp

A new place for art has opened in Vandergrift, PA. For it’s inaugural opening, The Vanishing Hair will debut two local artists, Mia Donna and Sam Thorp. The drawings and photography will consist of a play of light on the human form. This show features a very inclusive definition of natural beauty; appreciating the fullness and sensuality of non- traditional models that may not fit the narrow confines of today’s media marketing.

The opening reception will be on Sunday, May 6th, 1-5pm. Light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The show continues through the month with a closing on June 2nd during the Vandergrift Fine Arts Festival.

Mia Donna is professionally trained in graphic design and illustration. Her art world as she created it, changed after a course in basic photography. It was here that she discovered she had an eye for it. Honing her skills and learning on her own, Mia developed the perfection of capturing a pure moment. Also combining her graphic design background for some projects to enhance or create something completely different that really grabs the viewers attention. Mia Donna is a freelance photographer in Pittsburgh, and she also travels and goes on location for her shoots. Having many eclectic showings of her work at a variety of galleries, she has most recently been awarded the first place Attendee’s Choice winner for the Spring 2011 Naked in Pittsburgh Show.

Sam Thorp is classically trained in drawing and anatomy. Sam’s studio is located near Pittsburgh, and has had numerous exhibitions, including shows at the Warhol Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, GalleriE Chiz and Most Wanted Gallery. Sam’s work has been shown in New York City , Los Angeles, & Detroit’s cPOP Gallery. Artwork has been bought and collected across the United States, UK, France, Australia, and the Netherlands.

Together, these two artists combine their unique talents to showcase a celebration of the natural curves of women through photography and drawing.
