Celebrate excellence in architecture and design at the Design Awards Ceremony.

WHO: More than 400 supporters of architecture and design, including; community leaders, corporate partners, architects, designers, design advocates, event sponsors, and members of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Institute of Architects,

WHAT: Presented by AIA Pittsburgh, Design Pittsburgh is a signature program that highlights excellence in architecture and design, and the importance of good design in the Pittsburgh region. Held annually in October, Design Pittsburgh is a celebration of architecture and design, honoring those who create it.  The program features a juried Design Awards competition, public voting opportunity for the People’s Choice Award, and culminates with the Design Awards Ceremony, which includes the presentation of the coveted People’s Choice Award, and Young Architects Studio Competition awards.The theme for this year’s program, “Architecture. Experience it! represents AIA Pittsburgh’s commitment to four primary objectives:

·   Raise public awareness about the importance of good design

·   Emphasize the significant role that architects and designers serve in creating healthy, vibrant, and sustainable communities through innovative design practices

·   Educate about purposefully created designs with the end-user in mind

·   And, inform how intentional design helps to shape the public’s experiences with their environments.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 26, 2011, Design Gala 6-7:30 p.m.; Design Awards Ceremony 7:30-10:00 p.m.

WHERE:  August Wilson Center for African American Culture, located at 980 Liberty Avenue in the downtown Cultural District, is transformed into an architectural design gallery with more than seventy design submissions on exhibit, including the Young Architect’s Studio Competition submissions.

WHY: Celebrate, recognize, and honor excellence in architecture and design! AIA Pittsburgh believes that good design is essential for and sustainable communities, and for all those who live, work, and play in our region. AIA Pittsburgh serves as the definitive source and credible voice of architecture and design, and strives to improve, for society, the quality of the built environment by further raising the standards of architectural education, training, and practice; fostering design excellence; and promoting the value of architectural services to the public.
