I am a sculptor and a painter and work in Pittsburgh and Amsterdam. A majority of my artworks are commissions by private clients requiring site-specific sculptures or specific subjects for paintings. In the last four years I have enjoyed merging sustainable energy producing technologies withing the context of public art. The result has been the creation of public art that harnesses both wind and solar energy. These sculpures can store energy in deep cell batteries, provide for their own lighting needs and provide electricity to power or recharge many electronic devices. These sculptures be utilized by the public for a variety of community and environmental energy projects. My works have been exhibited internationally and at notable local venues such as The Carnegie Museum of Art, Heinz History Center, The Childrens Museum, The Frick Environmental Center, Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Technology Council and The Carnegie Science Center. I believe the architectural, historical and sociological context in which art is to be experienced should be included when creating a commission. In the public arts I never forget that the composition is indeed for the public and that all themes represented must serve well the landscape in which they reside. D. L. Edwards
