For Immediate Release
PA CareerLink, The US Department of Labor, Viqtory, Veteran’s Leadership Program, Veteran’s Place, Pittsburgh Hires Veterans, JFCS (Jewish Family and Community Services), and Corporate America Serves You (CASY) join forces to form the Pennsylvania Veterans Initiative Group (PVIG). The group is committed to impacting the veteran unemployment rate in Allegheny County – which is traditionally as much as 2.5% higher than the national unemployment average.
To get started, PVIG will be hosting a Veteran and Armed Forces Career and Resource Fair on June 5th at the Omni William Penn Hotel. Highly interactive and unique, the event boasts amenities not present at most job fairs. In addition to the variety of employers and veteran service organizations expected, a photographer will be on site to take professional head shots, and an array of workshops and panel discussions for veterans and employers are scheduled.
All branches of the service and all service eras welcome! Guard, Reserve, veteran spouses and dependents, please join! The military does a great job training of veterans to excel in their military occupational specialties. During the transition process, the service provides resources for those who are discharging and retiring. While the information is valuable, often it is not enough to transition successfully and smoothly. PVIG is committed to providing resources to enable and ensure success for our service community throughout many points in the military life cycles from employment to education, support, and general assistance services.
