2018 – A YEAR OF CHANGE FOR RIVER CITY BRASS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PITTSBURGH, PA – River City Brass enters a bittersweet new year, as it wishes a farewell to longtime concertmaster, Bernie Black, and welcomes a brand new educational program, “School of Brass.”

RIVER CITY BRASS SAYS GOODBYE TO CONCERTMASTER

Longtime concertmaster, Bernie Black, has decided to retire from River City Brass and will no longer be performing with the band. Bernie’s calm experience, humor and, of course, great playing will be missed by all. RCB maestro, James Gourlay, thanks Black for his amazing service to the band and plans to honor him during the coming season.

RCB LAUNCHES SCHOOL OF BRASS

River City Youth Brass Band has been moved out of Pittsburgh CAPA and into the Penn Hills School District. In an effort to expand the program to include youth of all ages, River City Brass is launching the RCB School of Brass on February 3, 2018 for Mini Kids (Grades K-3), Junior Brass Band (grades 4-7), and Youth Brass Band (grades 7-12), which will now take place in the band room of Penn Hills High School. Many of the students who wish to enroll in the school either do not own instruments, but have the desire to learn, or their current instruments are dilapidated.

River City Brass has begun a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo with a goal of $10,000 to provide the RCB School of Brass students with instruments. In this campaign, donors may either donate an amount of their choice, or they can choose to pay for individual instruments at different donation levels: $100 for Percussion, $200 for Cornet, $400 for Alto Horn, $400 for Trombone, $500 for Baritone, $1,000 for Tuba.

The School of Brass is a Saturday morning extracurricular program that will provide students with the opportunity to learn and improve their musicianship. Students will also perform for the community via two public concerts per year.
