Pittsburgh, PA, July 15, 2013: Barbara Amaya was forced to work as a prostitute from age 13 to 19 and was trafficked between Washington DC and New York City. On July 23rd, Ms. Amaya will arrive in Pittsburgh from Washington D.C. to share her story and her current work as an advocate to end Human Trafficking.
The event, titled Close to Home, is being held on July 23rd, 2013 at Carlow University to raise funds and awareness about the issue of human trafficking and modern-day slavery. Hosted by Diana Fletcher, local speaker, author and business owner, the event is one of Hope and Inspiration. Guests will mingle over wine and appetizers and hear Ms. Amaya, and local speakers Dr. Mary C. Burke, Judy Hale Reed and Joyce Ramirez suggest powerful actions we can take against this horrific crime. Guests will also have the opportunity to win raffle prizes from local companies and restaurants.
Proceeds from the event will help the Project to End Human Trafficking based in Pittsburgh, and the Polaris Project, a leading organization in the global fight against Human Trafficking and modern-day slavery.
Diana said, “This is an event about Hope. I want to raise awareness about this horrible crime and encourage people to become involved. We can all take action, however small. We can save lives.”
Tickets will be sold through the date of the event. Monetary donations are also being accepted for those who are unable to attend. More information can be found here: cficrowdfundingincubator.com/project/close-home or by contacting Diana Fletcher at 412 612-5977
