Bishop Canevin Hires New Football Coach: Alum & Business Owner Takes Over Varsity Football Program

For Immediate Release – Bishop Canevin High School has named the new Head Varsity Football Coach to be Bishop Canevin Alumn and former Varsity Defensive Coordinator at South Fayette High School, Mr. Darren Schoppe.  Mr. Schoppe is also the owner of Builder Direct Construction of Pittsburgh, PA.  Mr. Schoppe replaces, Mr. Bob Jacoby, who after serving the Bishop Canevin Football team for over 45 years, retired from his post in January of 2013. Mr. Schoppe brings vast experience with award winning football programs such as South Fayette and Peters Township High School, a vast knowledge of the business community and a pride and dedication to the Catholic faith and Bishop Canevin High School.

Mr. Schoppe will officially begin his duties at Bishop Canevin High School on March 15, 2013 and will jump immediately into his role through parent and student meetings along with weight training for the players.  This is not the first time Mr. Schoppe has been involved with the Bishop Canevin football program. He is a 1991 graduate from Bishop Canevin High School where he went on to become the Assistant Varsity Football Coach from 1993 until 2005.  In this tenure, Mr. Schoppe helped to lead Bishop Canevin to a WPIAL Finals bid.  Mr. Schoppe went on in 2007 to join the South Fayette High School football program as the Varsity Defense Coordinator where he helped lead the team to a WPIAL Championship in 2010.  Mr. Schoppe also brings vast business experience to the football team through his ownership of Builder Direct Construction in which he started in August of 2002.

The administration at Bishop Canevin High School is very excited to welcome Mr. Schoppe to the program.  High school Principal, Mrs. Karen Walker states:

We are excited to welcome Coach Schoppe back to the Bishop Canevin Community.  It was important for us to find a coach who would be passionate about Crusader football and about developing our young men as individuals, students, and athletes and I feel that Coach Schoppe is that person.  We all look forward to continued great success for our team both on and off the field under his leadership

Mr. Schoppe is a resident of Coraopolis, PA where he resides with his wife Michelle, a 1992 graduate of Bishop Canevin High School and his 2 children.  Mr. Schoppe understands fully what it means to become part of the Bishop Canevin community and the entire community is excited to welcome him to the team.
