500,000 Free Books: Peduto Hosts World Book Night Event

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – PITTSBURGH – On Monday, April 23, 2012, Councilman William Peduto will join volunteers across the country in delivering books for World Book Night. From Kodiak, Alaska, to Key West, Florida, in 5,000 towns and cities across America, volunteers will give away half a million free books. The local effort is being led by Journeys of Life, which will serve as a central location for book deliveries to schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and more, resulting in the distribution of more than 1500 books right here in Pittsburgh.

Councilman Peduto will be delivering books at 12:30 PM to The Neighborhood Academy (TNA) in Stanton Heights. TNA is an independent high school designed to help low-income youth become first-generation college students, the school provides foundational support during its extended school day. In The Neighborhood Academy’s 11th academic year, it continues to have 100% of graduates accepted to four-year colleges and universities, 90% of whom have graduated within five years or are currently matriculated.

At 1:30 PM, Councilman Peduto will be joined by students from the Neighborhood Academy in delivering books to Vintage Senior Services in East Liberty.

The media is invited to join Councilman Peduto at the book distribution at either location.
