German Cafe to open on Liberty Ave in Bloomfield

Connor Claussen, co-owner of Axel’s Pretzels a certified organic wholesale bakery, is opening his first brick-and-mortar location in Bloomfield. Claussen Cafehaus is an homage to Connor and his father, Axel’s, German heritage. The café will serve unique flavors of their organic soft pretzels, fair-trade coffee from local roaster 19Coffee Company, and all-natural ice cream from Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream.

They will serve their soft pretzels hot from the oven, the way they’re meant to be enjoyed. Connor talks about the disconnect between their wholesale business and the end consumer… “It’s extraordinary to be doing business with other local businesses, it’s what every entrepreneur dreams of. But the ability to offer a unique experience, inside of our own space is what has always felt to be an end goal. Claussen Cafehaus aims to create a comfortable space for all and we look forward to offering nourishing delicious food for our neighbors.”

In addition to their selection of soft pretzels, Claussen Cafehaus will offer deli-style sandwiches on their “Hausmade” organic sourdough bread for those looking to satisfy a larger appetite. Claussen Cafehaus will be located at 4615 Liberty Avenue between Lot 17 and Bitter Ends Garden & Luncheonette. A soft opening date has been set for March 1st with a grand opening celebration Saturday, March 6th. They are currently accepting resumes for individuals interested in joint the Claussen Cafehaus team. Send resumes to Connor at,
